Oud: the note behind the house

Not one collection but a thread through several — where oud actually turns up across Surrati’s 2026 list.

Oud is not a Surrati collection. It does not have its own price tier or its own page the way 1929 or Heritage do. What it has instead is a name that keeps showing up — in the founding line, in the Arabian collection, in Lock, in Luxury, in Heritage — a material, not a product, that runs underneath five different parts of the 2026 list.

What oud actually is

Oud is a dark, dense resin that forms inside certain agarwood trees, most often in Southeast and South Asia, when the tree is wounded and produces the resin as a defence. The resin-soaked wood is prized for a scent that is smoky, animalic and sweet at once — one of the most expensive raw materials perfumery uses, and a note that has been burned as incense and worn as oil across the Arabian Peninsula for generations, long before it became a mainstream Western perfumery note over the last two decades.

A material, not a product, that runs underneath five different parts of the 2026 list.

Five names, five collections

Gray Oud sits in the 1929 line, 150ml at RM 389. Oud Dubai is one half of the two-item Arabian collection, 100ml at RM 249. Amber Oud De Dubai is in Lock, 100ml at RM 175. Luxury Oud closes out the Luxury tier at the same RM 175. Honey Oud is in Heritage, 140ml at RM 199. Five collections, five different prices, one shared word — proof that oud on this list is an ingredient the house returns to across every register it sells in, not a single signature bottle.

Five of forty-four

Five oud names out of forty-four items on the whole 2026 list is a little over one in ten — present, but not the dominant note the list is built around. That’s worth saying plainly: Surrati’s catalogue is not an oud house first, the way some Gulf perfumers are. Oud is one recurring thread among several, alongside the dessert-led Gourmand line and the place-named Dubai collection, each pulling the list in its own direction.

One of each, added up

RM 389 + RM 249 + RM 175 + RM 175 + RM 199 — one bottle of each of the five oud names on the list comes to RM 1,187, spanning three different bottle sizes (150ml, 140ml, 100ml) and three different collections’ own colour identities.

Start with the Arabian collection

Oud Dubai and Arabic Coffee are the two names in Arabian — the smallest collection on the list, and the one built most directly around the region’s own signatures.

Oud sits at the edges of the price range and skips the middle almost entirely.

The material outlasts the tier it’s sold in

Price tiers on Surrati’s list rise and fall by collection, but oud itself doesn’t belong to any one of them — it appears at the very top of the range (1929, RM 389) and near the middle (Lock and Luxury, RM 175) with nothing in between claiming it exclusively. That’s a different pattern from Turquoise, which climbs steadily from Classic’s RM 99 to 1929’s RM 389 — oud instead sits at the edges of the price range and skips the middle almost entirely.

Two names, one shared word, different neighbours

Oud Dubai and Amber Oud De Dubai both pair "oud" with "Dubai" — the only two names on the entire 2026 list that combine those two words — yet they sit in different collections at different prices: Oud Dubai in Arabian at RM 249, Amber Oud De Dubai in Lock at RM 175. Same two-word combination, RM 74 apart, one collection built around a region and the other not built around oud at all. It’s a small, precise example of how little a shared word guarantees about where a fragrance actually lives on this list.

Why oud shows up in a founding line and a budget one

Gray Oud, at RM 389, and Amber Oud De Dubai, at RM 175, are more than two hundred ringgit apart, yet both carry the same raw material in their name. That gap says something the oud names alone don’t: on this list, price tracks the collection a fragrance belongs to and the format it’s built in, not how much oud sits inside it. A cheaper oud fragrance here isn’t a lesser one — it’s simply in a different collection, at that collection’s own price, built for a different part of the range Surrati sells across.

Not one bottle, a thread

If oud is what you are after, the right move on this list is not one product page — it is five, spread across five different price tiers, from RM 175 to RM 389.
